Role Accountabilities

As a Teacher of English, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality English language learning experiences that inspire, engage and support learners in achieving their goals. You will plan, prepare and deliver effective lessons tailored to the needs of diverse learner groups, taking into account different learning styles, individual needs and modes of study. Through your teaching, you will ensure that learning is both enjoyable and impactful, while meeting the British Council s Global Teaching Standards and the expectations of students and stakeholders. You will closely monitor learner progress, providing regular feedback and guidance to help students achieve their learning objectives. By encouraging learner autonomy and confidence, you will support students in taking ownership of their development and making meaningful progress throughout their learning journey. Maintaining the highest standards of teaching practice is central to this role. You will actively engage in professional development activities, performance management processes and knowledge sharing initiatives to continually enhance your skills and contribute to the British Council s reputation as a global leader in English Language Teaching. Beyond the classroom, you will contribute to the wider activities of the teaching centre and support the successful delivery of local and organisational objectives. Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will participate in staff meetings and contribute to the development, evaluation and continuous improvement of courses, teaching materials and related services. Your input will help ensure that teaching provision remains relevant, effective and responsive to the needs of learners. You will also support the promotion of British Council services and programmes by contributing to local marketing initiatives and helping to deliver an outstanding customer experience. This includes maintaining effective communication with students, sharing relevant information and ensuring that teaching-related administrative tasks are completed accurately and to agreed standards. Building positive and professional relationships with learners, customers and colleagues will be an important part of the role. You will help students gain greater awareness and understanding of the UK and its values, while creating opportunities for intercultural learning and meaningful cultural exchange both inside and outside the classroom. As a member of the British Council team, you will uphold the highest standards of professionalism and demonstrate the organisation s values and behaviours in all aspects of your work. You will also ensure full compliance with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, data protection, equality, diversity and inclusion, special educational needs and disability, and health and safety, helping to provide a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all learners.

Desired Candidate Profile

Qualifications & Experience Essentials

• High proficiency in English i.e. CEFR level of C2/ IELTS Band 8+ in each of 4 sections of the academic module.
• University degree or equivalent.
• Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Certificate TESOL (TEFLi) or equivalent.
• Up to 2 years post-certificate experience (TEFLi) (and/or equivalent to 1,200 hours).
• Experience in teaching relevant age groups to be specified by the centre:
  • Early Years aged 2 to 5 (400+hours)
  • Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours)
  • Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours)
  • Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (400+ hours)
  • University/Vocational students aged 18 to 25 (400+hours)
  • Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours)
