Job Summary

Auto Truck Co. is looking for a highly experienced Senior CAD/CAM & Injection Mold Design Engineer with strong practical and hands-on experience in plastic injection mold design, mold manufacturing, CNC machining, Wire EDM, and Spark EDM.

The successful candidate must be capable of managing the complete mold manufacturing process from A to Z, starting from part analysis and mold design, through CAM programming and machining, up to mold assembly, trial, correction, and final production approval.

This is a hands-on technical position. The candidate must have real practical experience working directly with CNC and EDM machines, not only design or programming experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Design complete plastic injection molds from A to Z.

• Develop full mold concepts including:

  • Core and cavity

  • Parting lines

  • Runner and gate systems

  • Ejection systems

  • Cooling systems

  • Slides

  • Lifters

  • Inserts

  • Moving and locking mechanisms

• Review plastic part designs for manufacturability and moldability.

• Prepare complete 3D mold assemblies and 2D manufacturing drawings.

• Prepare and optimize CAM programs for mold machining.

• Select machining strategies, tools, cutting parameters, and machine setups.

• Perform hands-on operation and programming of CNC milling machines.

• Perform hands-on milling and drilling operations.

• Operate and program Wire EDM machines.

• Operate and program Spark EDM machines.

• Design and prepare EDM electrodes.

• Supervise and participate directly in mold machining and manufacturing.

• Perform dimensional checks during machining.

• Ensure required tolerances, fits, surface finish, and mold accuracy.

• Supervise and participate in mold fitting and assembly.

• Perform mold trials on injection molding machines.

• Analyze trial results and solve mold defects.

• Modify molds based on trial results and production requirements.

• Perform mold repairs, maintenance, and engineering modifications.

• Troubleshoot machining, mold, and injection-related problems.

• Improve machining cycle times and mold manufacturing efficiency.

• Reduce tooling costs and manufacturing lead times.

• Coordinate with production, quality, maintenance, and injection molding teams.

• Maintain complete technical documentation for molds and machining programs.

Requirements

Hands-On Experience Required

The candidate must have strong practical experience and be comfortable working directly on the shop floor.

Hands-on experience is required in:

• CNC milling machine setup and operation

• CNC programming

• Conventional milling

• Drilling

• Wire EDM operation

• Spark EDM operation

• Electrode preparation

• Mold fitting

• Mold assembly

• Mold polishing and finishing

• Mold trial and troubleshooting

• Measuring and inspection tools

The position is not suitable for candidates with only office-based CAD/CAM experience.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

• Minimum 7–10 years of relevant experience in mold design and mold manufacturing.

• Strong experience in plastic injection mold design.

• Strong practical experience in mold machining and manufacturing.

• Ability to independently manage a complete mold project from design to final production trial.

• Strong knowledge of:

  • CNC machining

  • Milling

  • Drilling

  • Wire EDM

  • Spark EDM

  • Mold assembly

  • Mold fitting

  • Mold maintenance

• Strong understanding of machining tolerances, fits, surface finishes, and mold steels.

• Good understanding of the injection molding process.

• Strong knowledge of mold defects and corrective actions.

• Good knowledge of cutting tools and machining parameters.

• Ability to read and create engineering drawings.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Strong leadership and technical decision-making ability.

CAD/CAM Software

Strong experience in one or more of the following is required:

• Siemens NX

• SolidWorks

• PowerMill

• Mastercam

• CATIA

• AutoCAD

• or equivalent CAD/CAM software

Preferred Experience

Candidates with experience in the following will be highly preferred:

• Automotive plastic parts

• Truck spare parts

• Large injection molds

• Complex molds with slides and lifters

• Multi-cavity molds

• High-volume production molds

• Mold repair and modification

• CNC machining of hardened mold steel

• EDM electrode design

• Injection molding production support
