Power Systems SME PSCAD / HV & EHV Studies

Overview of the Role
Wood (KSA) is seeking a highly experienced Power Systems Subject Matter Expert (SME) specializing in PSCAD, HV, and EHV Studies. This full-time position involves serving as a Technical Authority across a diverse portfolio of energy, oil & gas, mining, industrial, and infrastructure projects within Saudi Arabia. The successful candidate will provide specialist technical leadership for complex High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) power system studies, with a particular focus on PSCAD-based switching transient and insulation coordination studies for systems operating at 69 kV and above. The SME will act as a senior technical authority throughout the project lifecycle, supporting concept studies, FEED, detailed engineering, EPC/PMC execution, technical assurance, and commissioning. Key Responsibilities

Act as the Technical Authority / SME for HV and EHV power system studies across major industrial and energy projects.
Lead and technically assure PSCAD electromagnetic transient studies, particularly switching transient analysis and insulation coordination.
Perform and review studies for electrical systems operating at 69 kV and above, including HV/EHV substations and associated power networks.
Develop and validate PSCAD models for complex electrical networks, equipment, and switching scenarios.
Perform and technically review insulation coordination studies, including evaluation of transient and temporary overvoltages and equipment insulation requirements.
Lead and review ETAP power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, motor starting, relay/protection coordination, and arc-flash analysis.
Review electrical system philosophies, design criteria, technical specifications, study reports, and engineering deliverables.
Provide independent technical assurance and resolve complex power-system engineering issues throughout Concept, FEED, detailed design, and project execution.
Support technical reviews, design reviews, client workshops, and interdisciplinary engineering activities.
Provide specialist technical input to proposals, tenders, and business-development activities.
Mentor and develop electrical and power-system engineers and promote consistent engineering standards and best practices.
Maintain awareness of developments in power-system modeling, HV/EHV technology, grid integration, and applicable international standards.
Required Experience and Skills

Over 10 years of experience in power systems engineering, with a focus on HV and EHV studies.
Demonstrated expertise in PSCAD-based electromagnetic transient studies, including switching transient analysis and insulation coordination.
Strong capability in ETAP-based power system studies, covering load flow, short circuit, motor starting, relay/protection coordination, and arc-flash analysis.
Experience with electrical systems operating at 69 kV and above.
Ability to provide technical leadership and assurance across various project phases.
Work Environment
This role is based in Saudi Arabia and is a full-time position. The SME will work within a dynamic project environment, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and clients across various industrial and energy sectors.
