About the Role

Dallah Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to join its team. This full-time role involves performing venipuncture and capillary blood collection in patients' homes, ensuring strict adherence to approved policies, procedures, and infection prevention standards. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for verifying patient identity, reviewing lab requests, preparing equipment, and providing clear instructions to patients and families regarding pre-test requirements and post-collection care.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection in patients’ homes according to approved policies, procedures, and infection prevention standards.
• Verify patient identity using two identifiers before any specimen collection.
• Review lab requests/orders for completeness, appropriate tests, and clinical information prior to collection.
• Prepare all necessary phlebotomy equipment and visit bag supplies, ensuring readiness and adherence to cold chain requirements.
• Provide clear instructions to patients/families regarding pre-test requirements and post-collection care.
• Collect blood and other specimens (*, urine, stool, swabs) as per physician’s orders and organizational protocols, including for pediatric and geriatric patients.
• Label all specimens at the patient’s bedside immediately after collection, ensuring accurate patient identifiers, date, time, collector ID, and test requested.
• Complete all laboratory request forms and electronic entries accurately and in a timely manner.
• Maintain strict adherence to infection prevention and control measures, including appropriate use of PPE, hand hygiene, and safe handling and disposal of sharps and biohazard materials.
• Monitor patients during and after specimen collection for adverse reactions and provide appropriate first-line management, escalating promptly to the nurse/physician as needed.
• Ensure proper packaging, storage, and transport of specimens to the hospital laboratory within required timeframes and temperature conditions to preserve sample integrity.
• Document all procedures performed in the patient’s medical record, including site of collection, complications, patient tolerance, and any deviations or issues.
• Communicate promptly with the requesting physician, home care nurse, and laboratory staff regarding collection difficulties, sample rejection risks, or any concerns affecting test results.
• Participate in quality improvement activities related to the pre-analytical phase and implement corrective actions as directed.
• Maintain stock levels of phlebotomy supplies and report low stock or equipment issues to the responsible supervisor.
• Ensure all phlebotomy equipment is checked, cleaned, and maintained as per departmental guidelines.
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training/competency assessments for phlebotomy practices in home healthcare.
• Contribute to patient and family education about the purpose of laboratory tests and preparation for repeat testing.
• Maintain regular communication and collaboration with the home healthcare multidisciplinary team.
• Actively participate in unit Safety and Risk Management programs, including hazard identification and incident reporting.
• Report incidents in the incident reporting system and participate in incident review/root cause analysis when required.
