Design and build the platform's backend services and APIs — secure, multi-tenant, and engineered to enterprise, regulator-grade standards for large-scale organisations — using modern AI-assisted workflows to move fast without compromising quality.

What you'll do

• Design and build backend services and the platform's GraphQL API.
• Model complex IP-lifecycle domains (patents, trademarks, renewals, multi-jurisdiction rules).
• Implement multi-tenant data isolation and RBAC.
• Own integrations with external systems (ERP, CRM, PTO APIs).
• Own performance, reliability, and security (SSO/MFA, encryption, secure SDLC) aligned with NCA controls and PDPL.
• Ship fast with AI-assisted development (e.g., Claude Code) and build the AI guardrails — review gates, automated tests, and security checks — that keep that speed safe.
• Reason about the demands of a large-scale, multi-stakeholder programme — scale of operations, non-functional requirements (availability, performance, security), integration surface, and the delivery expectations of an enterprise or government client — and turn them into sound backend decisions.
• Set engineering standards, review code, and mentor other engineers.
• And all responsibilities given by the direct manager.

What we look for

• 8+ years building production backend systems, with proven delivery for large-scale organisations — enterprise or government platforms, high data volumes, and significant integrations or partnerships.
• Able to understand and navigate the complexity of large-scale enterprise and government projects: scale of operations, technical and regulatory requirements, multiple stakeholders, and overall project expectations.
• Deep experience with a modern backend framework — Ruby on Rails strongly preferred.
• Expert with AI coding tools such as Claude Code to ship quickly, with a track record of building AI guardrails so speed never compromises correctness or security.
• Expert relational database design (PostgreSQL) and background processing (e.g., Sidekiq).
• Proven GraphQL API design — schema, resolvers and performance (graphql-ruby preferred) — and secure authentication flows (SSO, MFA).
• Track record delivering enterprise-grade, multi-tenant SaaS at scale, and comfortable with the complexity that comes with it.
• Experience in, or genuine comfort working in, a fast-paced startup environment: self-managed time, adapting to changing priorities, following tasks through, and delivering on short timelines when needed.
• Preferred — experience in government or regulated environments.
• Preferred — familiarity with Google Cloud (Cloud Run, me-central2).
• Preferred — domain exposure to IP or legal technology.
• Preferred — bilingual (Arabic + English).
