تفاصيل الوظيفة

SENIOR FRAGRANCE PERFORMANCE & STABILITY SCIENTIST

Location: Jeddah, Makkah Province, Saudi Arabia

Employment Type: Full-time

Workplace: On-site

Indicative Salary: SAR 22,000–34,000 per month

Sector: Fine Fragrance | Arabian Perfumery | Fragrance Technology | R&D

&

Palomba General Trading LLC is seeking an experienced Senior Fragrance Performance & Stability Scientist to support the development, technical evaluation and optimisation of fine-fragrance and Arabian-perfumery projects for Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC.

We are specifically looking for a professional with direct experience in:

fragrance performance + stability testing + raw-material behaviour + technical product development.

This role is not primarily a perfumer position.

The successful candidate should understand what happens after a fragrance formula has been created and be capable of determining why a perfume performs well, poorly or inconsistently under real-world conditions.

This is not a perfume retail, marketing or general sales position.

A fragrance can smell excellent during initial evaluation and still fail commercially because it:

  • loses projection too quickly;
  • develops an unbalanced dry-down;
  • changes after storage;
  • discolours;
  • oxidises;
  • becomes unstable under heat;
  • behaves differently on skin and fabric;
  • loses volatile top notes;
  • performs inconsistently across production batches.

The objective of this role is to identify those problems and support technically credible solutions.

The candidate will work between perfumery, formulation, raw materials, analytical evaluation and product development.

  • Evaluate fine-fragrance performance.
  • Assess longevity, diffusion and substantivity.
  • Compare fragrance modifications.
  • Develop structured performance-testing protocols.
  • Evaluate fragrances on skin, blotter and fabric.
  • Conduct accelerated stability studies.
  • Assess performance at elevated temperatures.
  • Monitor colour, clarity and odour changes during storage.
  • Investigate oxidation and fragrance degradation.
  • Evaluate raw-material interactions.
  • Compare different fragrance concentrations.
  • Support perfumers during formula optimisation.
  • Identify components affecting projection or longevity.
  • Support alcohol-based and oil-based perfume development.
  • Evaluate concentrated perfume oils and attars.
  • Benchmark competitive Saudi, GCC and international fragrances.
  • Maintain structured stability and performance documentation.
  • Support technical discussions with fragrance houses and raw-material suppliers.

The candidate should understand and professionally evaluate:

  • opening impact;
  • projection;
  • diffusion;
  • sillage;
  • heart development;
  • dry-down;
  • longevity;
  • substantivity;
  • overall fragrance evolution.

Performance should be assessed over time rather than through a single initial smelling evaluation.

Relevant experience should include evaluation under conditions such as:

  • elevated temperature;
  • temperature cycling;
  • light exposure;
  • extended storage;
  • different packaging systems.

The candidate should be capable of identifying:

  • colour change;
  • haze;
  • precipitation;
  • separation;
  • oxidation;
  • odour change;
  • degradation;
  • instability.
&

Fragrance performance in Saudi Arabia and the GCC requires specific attention to:

  • high ambient temperatures;
  • temperature transitions;
  • storage conditions;
  • skin temperature;
  • high fragrance concentrations;
  • heavy use on fabrics;
  • consumer expectations regarding longevity and projection.

The candidate should understand how environmental conditions influence both perceived performance and product stability.

-

Relevant experience may include:

  • Eau de Parfum;
  • Extrait de Parfum;
  • high-concentration fine fragrance;
  • maturation;
  • filtration;
  • clarity;
  • solvent balance;
  • stability.
-

Experience with the following is particularly valuable:

  • attars;
  • concentrated perfume oils;
  • mukhallat;
  • non-alcoholic perfume systems;
  • high-oil fragrance formats.

The candidate should understand the performance differences between oil-based and ethanol-based systems.

Relevant materials may include:

  • oud;
  • rose;
  • saffron;
  • musk materials;
  • amber materials;
  • citrus oils;
  • sandalwood;
  • patchouli;
  • frankincense;
  • resins;
  • essential oils;
  • aroma chemicals.

The candidate should understand how different materials may affect:

  • colour;
  • oxidation;
  • diffusion;
  • stability;
  • substantivity;
  • overall performance.

The candidate should be capable of helping answer questions such as:

  • Why is the opening too weak?
  • Why does projection disappear rapidly?
  • Why does one modification last longer than another?
  • Why does the fragrance darken during storage?
  • Why does performance differ between skin and fabric?
  • Which raw materials may be causing instability?
  • How can performance improve without simply increasing concentration?

The Scientist will provide structured technical feedback to support targeted formula modifications.

The role may benchmark:

  • Saudi luxury fragrances;
  • UAE fragrance brands;
  • GCC niche perfumes;
  • international niche products;
  • premium European fine fragrances.

Evaluation may include:

  • longevity;
  • projection;
  • diffusion;
  • fragrance evolution;
  • dry-down;
  • concentration;
  • stability.

Relevant previous titles may include:

  • Fragrance Performance Scientist
  • Fragrance Stability Scientist
  • Senior Fragrance Technologist
  • Fragrance R&D Scientist
  • Fragrance Application Scientist
  • Fine Fragrance Technologist
  • Perfume Product Development Scientist
  • Fragrance Technical Specialist
  • Senior Product Development Scientist – Fragrance
  • Minimum 6 years of professional fragrance, perfume or cosmetics R&D experience preferred.
  • Direct professional experience in fragrance stability or performance testing.
  • Strong knowledge of fragrance raw materials.
  • Experience evaluating longevity, diffusion and substantivity.
  • Experience with accelerated stability studies.
  • Experience with alcohol-based fragrance systems.
  • Experience with concentrated or oil-based perfume systems strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of oxidation and fragrance degradation.
  • Familiarity with IFRA requirements.
  • Strong technical documentation skills.
  • Experience supporting perfumers or fragrance-development teams preferred.
  • GCC or Middle Eastern fragrance experience strongly advantageous.
  • Excellent English required.
  • Arabic advantageous.

Particularly relevant candidates may come from:

  • international fragrance houses;
  • Saudi perfume manufacturers;
  • UAE perfume manufacturers;
  • fine-fragrance R&D laboratories;
  • fragrance application laboratories;
  • cosmetics/perfume stability laboratories;
  • private-label fragrance manufacturers;
  • technical fragrance-development organisations.

Previous exposure to organisations such as Givaudan, IFF, dsm-firmenich, Symrise, Mane, Robertet, CPL Aromas, Eurofragance, Iberchem, Sozio or established GCC perfume manufacturers would be particularly relevant.

Full-time position based in:

Jeddah, Makkah Province, Saudi Arabia

Indicative fixed monthly compensation:
