Role Overview

The Process Engineer is responsible for developing process engineering deliverables for in-house projects. This includes Process Design Packages (PDP), Front End Engineering Design (FEED), and Detailed Engineering Packages (DEP). The role ensures technical integrity and compliance with SABIC Engineering Standards, licensor requirements, and applicable international standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and review Process Design Basis (PDB) and Design Philosophy documents.
• Develop and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Utility Flow Diagrams (UFDs).
• Develop and review Heat and Material Balances (HMBs).
• Perform process simulations using Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, or equivalent software.
• Define operating cases, turndown conditions, start-up, shutdown, and upset scenarios.
• Perform process engineering calculations including line sizing, hydraulic analysis, and equipment sizing.
• Develop and review Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Develop process control philosophies, safeguarding strategies, and operating logic.
• Ensure proper implementation of control schemes, interlocks, trips, and alarms.
• Lead P&ID reviews and close HAZOP actions with appropriate documentation.
• Develop Cause and Effect Diagrams, Control Narratives, and Safeguarding Narratives.
• Prepare process datasheets for major static and rotating equipment.
• Define process scope of supply for packaged equipment.
• Review vendor, licensor, and contractor documentation for technical compliance.
• Evaluate technical bids and provide inputs to Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs).
• Coordinate with Process Safety, Mechanical, Piping, Instrumentation, and Electrical disciplines.
• Provide engineering inputs including relief and blowdown loads, line lists, process data sheets, and electrical load requirements.
• Manage interfaces with licensors, technology providers, vendors, and contractors.
• Participate in process safety, constructability, and 3D model review workshops.
• Support project proposals, scope development, and man-hour estimates for in-house engineering projects.
• Ensure compliance with SABIC Engineering Standards (SES) and regulatory requirements including RCER and HCIS.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, refinery, or chemical process industries.
• Mandatory experience in Process Design Package (PDP), Front End Engineering Design (FEED), and Detailed Engineering Package (DEP) execution.
• Strong knowledge of PDP and FEED workflows and project execution methodologies.
• Proficiency in process engineering software including Aspen Engineering Suite, Aspen HYSYS, HTRI, AFT, and equivalent tools.
• Thorough understanding of process control philosophy and safeguarding principles.
• Hands-on experience preparing process engineering deliverables for large-scale process and utility systems.
• Experience reviewing licensor, vendor, and contractor engineering packages.
• Experience preparing and reviewing project scopes of work, Invitations to Bid (ITB), technical proposals, and man-hour estimates.
• Knowledge of flare systems, pressure relief systems, hazardous area classification, and process safety concepts.
• Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards including API, ASME, ISO, and NFPA.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements including HCIS, RCER, and related industry regulations.
