Operations & Maintenance Technician / Engineer

Job purpose:

The Operations & Maintenance Technician / Engineer is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of Envac pneumatic waste collection systems. The role supports planned preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, troubleshooting, inspections, system monitoring, spare-parts control, and customer/site support to maintain high system availability.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor Envac pneumatic waste collection systems, including collection stations, inlet stations, pneumatic equipment, electrical controls, and associated mechanical components.
• Perform routine, preventive, and proactive maintenance in accordance with approved maintenance schedules, technical manuals, and site-specific procedures. Envac documentation emphasizes routine, preventive, and proactive maintenance as core operational requirements.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control-system faults; respond to breakdowns promptly to minimize downtime.
• Conduct regular inspections, functional testing, and condition assessments; identify defects and ensure repairs are completed within required timeframes.
• Carry out authorized electrical and pneumatic work, commissioning support, and initial start-up activities in accordance with Envac procedures.
• Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, maintenance checklists, fault reports, and technical documentation.
• Use computerized maintenance and control systems to track work orders, equipment performance, maintenance history, and service activities.
• Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels of critical spare parts, consumables, tools, and materials.
• Support scheduled replacement of worn or failed components and recommend improvements to maintenance plans, equipment reliability, and system performance.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with Envac requirements, site procedures, applicable legislation, and HSE standards.
• Apply safe isolation procedures before maintenance, including isolation of electrical power and compressed air, lockout/tagout, and use of appropriate PPE. Documentation requires compressed air to be turned off before work on pneumatically operated equipment and safety switches isolated before electrical work.
• Coordinate professionally with clients, facilities-management teams, subcontractors, and internal operations teams; provide technical guidance and site updates where required.
• Participate in shift work, on-call duty, emergency call-outs, and weekend/public-holiday coverage as required by the site operation.

Envac is seeking a safety-focused and technically capable Operations & Maintenance Technician / Engineer to support the reliable operation of advanced pneumatic waste collection systems. The successful candidate will combine hands-on electro-mechanical maintenance capability with strong troubleshooting skills, disciplined documentation, and a commitment to excellent customer service and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Alternatively, a recognized technical/vocational qualification with relevant hands-on operations and maintenance experience.
• Typically 2–5 years of experience in maintenance, facilities operations, industrial automation, pneumatic conveying, waste-management systems, utilities, or comparable electro-mechanical systems.
• Hands-on experience in fault-finding and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control equipment.
• Experience with PLC-controlled systems, sensors, actuators, motors, fans, compressors, valves, VFDs, and industrial electrical panels is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), work-order management, and technical reporting.
• Valid driving licence is preferred, subject to site and local requirements.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong practical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, electrical schematics, P&IDs, manuals, equipment layouts, and maintenance procedures.
• Competence in systematic troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action follow-up.
• Ability to perform inspections, servicing, adjustment, replacement, and functional testing of equipment.
• Understanding of preventive and condition-based maintenance practices.
• Knowledge of spare-parts identification, inventory control, and maintenance planning.
• Basic computer skills, including MS Office and maintenance/reporting systems.
• Knowledge of safe work practices, permit-to-work systems, lockout/tagout, and risk assessment.

• Strong safety mindset, attention to detail, and ability to follow procedures consistently.
• Proactive, dependable, and able to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
• Calm and methodical approach to breakdown response and time-critical troubleshooting.
• Good communication skills in English; Arabic is an advantage for Qatar-based roles.
• Customer-focused approach with professional site conduct.
• Physically capable of working in industrial environments, including exposure to noise, moving equipment, confined or restricted spaces, and outdoor conditions, subject to medical fitness requirements.
• Willingness to undertake Envac-specific technical and safety training. Envac component guidance specifies that maintenance procedures must be completed by trained personnel or personnel with solid experience handling the relevant components.

Preferred Certifications

• Electrical authorization or electrical safety certification.
• NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent HSE certification.
• First Aid and Fire Safety training.
• Confined Space Entry, Working at Height, LOTO, and Permit-to-Work training.
• PLC, industrial automation, pneumatic systems, or mechanical maintenance certifications.
