We are seeking an experienced Senior Roads Engineer to lead the planning, design and delivery of complex road infrastructure projects. This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to contribute to major transport schemes, from early feasibility and concept development through to detailed design, construction and completion. You will work closely with clients, contractors, local authorities, utility providers and multidisciplinary project teams to deliver safe, sustainable and cost-effective solutions.

Your responsibilities will include managing road and highway projects, preparing technical reports, specifications, calculations and design drawings, and reviewing work produced by engineers and external consultants. You will oversee the development of alignment, pavement, drainage, junction and traffic management designs, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, legislation and planning requirements. You will also support surveys, site investigations, tender processes, construction supervision and technical inspections. The role will involve monitoring programme, budget, quality and risk, resolving design and construction issues, and providing technical guidance to less experienced colleagues.

Desired Candidate Profile

You should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, with substantial professional experience in roads, highways or transport infrastructure. Chartered or working towards chartered status is desirable, alongside strong knowledge of applicable design standards, construction methods, health and safety requirements and environmental considerations. Experience with industry-standard design and project management software, as well as confidence in interpreting technical data and producing clear documentation, is expected. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential, together with the ability to manage competing priorities and build effective working relationships. A proactive, analytical and collaborative approach will be highly valued, as will a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering outcomes and continuous improvement.
