About the American School Dhahran (ASD)

The American School Dhahran (ASD) is seeking an English Language Arts Teacher to join its dynamic English department. This full-time position is based in the Eastern region of Saudi Arabia, specifically in Al Khobar and Dhahran, and involves teaching English to students in grades 6-8.

Role Summary

The English Language Arts Teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering comprehensive English lessons to middle school students (grades 6-8). This role requires a commitment to student-centered learning and maintaining a safe and secure educational environment. The successful candidate will contribute to a highly successful English department, focusing on active and hands-on programs, including Advanced Program courses.

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrate commitment to the safety and security of children and young people (child protection).
• Plan and deliver lessons in accordance with defined curriculum goals and objectives.
• Implement an active, hands-on, and student-centered program to promote English learning, including Advanced Program courses, for middle school students.
• Maintain accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required documentation.
• Evaluate and grade student classwork and assignments.
• Compile, administer, and grade examinations.
• Provide additional support to students requiring extra help with coursework outside of class.
• Observe, monitor, and record student progress.
• Respond appropriately to the diverse individual needs and abilities within the classroom.
• Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
• Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, materials, and instructional methods.
• Stay informed of developments in the field through current literature, peer discussions, and professional conferences.
• Collaborate with colleagues on teaching and research issues.
• Demonstrate creativity in teaching approaches.
• Serve on academic or administrative committees addressing institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
• Provide supervision for student after-school activities or serve as a coach/assistant coach for athletic teams.
• Maintain a safe learning environment for students and staff at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Principal or Principal.

Qualifications and Experience

• A qualified and enthusiastic English teacher.
• 2-5 years of relevant experience in teaching English.

This is a full-time position within the American School Dhahran.
