Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Structural Design Department, including senior and junior engineering staff.
• Plan, organize and allocate design resources according to project requirements, priorities and deadlines.
• Provide technical leadership and supervision for the analysis and design of bridges and transportation structures.
• Review and approve structural calculations, design reports, drawings, specifications and technical deliverables.
• Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, project specifications and client requirements.
• Establish and review design criteria, methodologies and technical approaches for bridge projects.
• Monitor the technical quality and progress of all design activities and ensure timely delivery of design packages.
• Coordinate with other disciplines, including Roads, Geotechnical, Hydraulics, Utilities, BIM and Construction teams.
• Provide technical guidance to engineers in resolving complex structural design issues.
• Manage design changes and ensure proper technical assessment, documentation and approval.
• Participate in technical meetings with Clients, Consultants, Contractors and other stakeholders.
• Provide Construction Support throughout the construction phase, including responding to technical queries and RFIs, reviewing site-related structural issues and developing appropriate design solutions in coordination with the construction team.
• Review and provide technical input on Shop Drawings, Method Statements, Material/Technical Submittals and other construction-related documents as required.
• Support site teams in resolving structural issues and ensure that proposed solutions are technically sound and aligned with the approved design.
• Ensure effective implementation of QA/QC procedures within the design department.
• Monitor team performance, provide technical mentoring, and support the professional development of engineers.
• Identify training and development needs within the department.
• Prepare and monitor design resource requirements, including man-hour estimates and manpower planning.
• Provide technical support for tenders, proposals and pre-contract activities when required.
• Identify technical risks and challenges and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.

Promote best engineering practices and continuous improvement within the structural design department.

Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering plus a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering. A Ph.D. in Structural Engineering is preferred.
• 20+ years of professional experience in structural engineering, with extensive experience in bridge design and structural analysis.
• Proven experience in managing and leading a large structural design team.
• Extensive experience in bridge engineering, structural design, technical review and design management.
• Proven experience in providing Construction Support / Technical Support during the construction phase.
• Previous professional experience in Egypt and/or GCC countries is highly preferred.
• Experience working on major infrastructure and transportation projects in Egypt and/or GCC markets is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of relevant international and local bridge design codes and standards.
• Proficiency in relevant structural analysis and design software.
• Strong leadership, communication, coordination and problem solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.
