SEGULA Technologies is expanding its activities in the energy sector in Canada and is seeking experienced mechanical design engineers in hydroelectricity to contribute to construction, refurbishment and modernization projects for hydroelectric power plants.

The positions mainly involve the design of hydraulic turbines, auxiliary mechanical systems for power plants (BOP) and large-scale mechanical and structural components.

Main responsibilities

Depending on your specialization, you will be called:

• Design and develop hydraulic turbines, their components, assemblies and auxiliary systems.
• Develop detailed concepts and designs for new equipment, as well as refurbishment and modernization solutions.
• Perform dimensioning, mechanical calculations and finite element (FE) analyses, particularly in terms of stress, fatigue and mechanical integrity.
• Develop and revise 3D models, 2D drawings and manufacturing documentation.
• Design and size BOP systems: cooling, lubrication, drainage, compressed air, piping and related equipment.
• Prepare technical specifications, review supplier proposals and ensure compliance with project standards and requirements.
• Analyze existing equipment and propose solutions for rehabilitation, extending lifespan and improving performance.
• Coordinate interfaces with multidisciplinary teams and provide technical support to manufacturing, procurement and site teams.

Areas of specialization

Candidates must possess strong expertise in at least one of the following areas:

• Hydraulic turbine design: Francis, Kaplan and/or Pelton turbines; turbine wheels; shafts; guide wheels; bearings; seals; rotating assemblies; refurbishment and modernization.
• Auxiliary mechanical systems (BOP): cooling water; lubrication; compressed air; drainage and drying; piping; valves and auxiliary systems.
• Mechanical, structural and FE calculations: structural calculations; finite element analyses; fatigue; stresses; mechanical integrity; large welded components; design optimization.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent training.
• Relevant design experience in the hydroelectric, rotating equipment, heavy machinery or power generation sectors.
• Experience with 3D CAD software, mechanical calculation and/or finite element (FE) analysis, depending on the specialization.

International applications and mobility

These positions are also open to qualified international candidates wishing to settle in Canada.
