Job description
Summary
Coordinate health and safety systems, identify hazards, and assess risks to health and safety, put appropriate safety controls in place and provide advice about accident prevention and occupational health to management and employees.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1. Promotes occupational health and safety within an organization and develop safer and healthier ways of working.
2. Inspects workplaces and workplace equipment, to ensure they meet safety regulations and to identify hazards and risks.
3. Ensures that workplaces conform with organizational procedures and safety standards.
4. Works with engineers and other professionals to ensure the safety of worksites and work practices.
5. Ensures dangerous materials are correctly stored, preventing occupational hazards on employees.
6. Identifies and test work areas for potential accident and health hazards, such as toxic fumes and explosive gas-air mixtures and implement appropriate control measures.
7. Ensures an organization is aware of, and complies with, all legislation relating to its duty of care, workplace activities and the use of its plant, equipment and substances.
8. Records and report hazards, accidents, injuries and health issues within the workplace.
9. Assists with the investigation of accidents and unsafe working conditions, study possible causes and recommend remedial action.
10. Conducts training sessions for management, supervisors and workers on health and safety practices and legislation.
11. Assists with the rehabilitation of workers after accidents or injuries and make sure they experience a satisfactory return to work.
12. Coordinate’s emergency procedures, Confined Space rescues, firefighting and first aid crews.
Education
Bachelor's Degree or Associate Degree/Diploma in Safety/Loss Prevention, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Safety, Environmental Safety, or any related discipline.
Experience Required
Three (3) years of related experience with Bachelor's degree or five (5) years with associate Degree/ Diploma required.
