Job Summary

The Laboratory Director is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for laboratory services across the hospital group. The role oversees diagnostic laboratory operations, quality assurance, workforce performance, equipment management, and regulatory compliance while ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable laboratory results to support patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight of laboratory services, including Clinical Chemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, Immunology, and other diagnostic disciplines
• Develop and implement laboratory policies, procedures, quality assurance programmes, and operational improvement initiatives
• Monitor laboratory performance indicators, turnaround times, testing accuracy, and service efficiency to ensure high-quality diagnostic services
• Oversee laboratory equipment, reagents, consumables, inventory management, and cost optimization in coordination with Supply Chain and Finance
• Lead laboratory supervisors, specialists, and technicians while overseeing staffing, competency, training, and performance management
• Collaborate with medical, nursing, and other clinical departments to ensure effective diagnostic support and timely communication of critical results
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards, infection prevention requirements, accreditation standards, and applicable healthcare regulations

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, or a related field; Master's degree in Laboratory Management, Healthcare Management, or a related discipline is preferred
• Valid SCFHS professional classification and registration
• Minimum 8 years of relevant laboratory experience, including significant laboratory management or leadership experience
• Strong experience in hospital laboratory operations, quality management, equipment management, and laboratory information systems (LIS)
• Hospital laboratory leadership experience is required
• Knowledge of CBAHI, CAP, ISO 15189, and other relevant laboratory accreditation and regulatory standards
• Strong leadership, operational management, analytical, and communication skills
